From Srinagar kashmir have completed by 12th standard from Green Valley educational institute and subjects were English literature, pol science ,psychology and history and then in graduation she took up Philosophy including English Literature.
24 years old Badrunisa is currently persuing Masters in English Literature and Language from Kashmir University and she is a self-taught artist and she writes too.
While talking to kashmir bulletin she said Art is meaningless without some essence of soul. A work of art is not just a canvas painted with different hues but with a touch of spirituality which makes it alive. For me Art is a language of Love which we speak through colours.
Giving her inspiration for painting: Whirling Dervishes that feature as a motif in most of my artwork and you will also find moon as a symbol in my paintings it depicts me in a way. For me the Whirling Dervish and Faqeers represents the soul, love, and existence of a Divine force. They are the Ahl-e-dil ,she said.
I completed live by this quatrain:
Sirr e baam bhi pukaara,
Lab e daar bhi sada di,
Mien kahan kahan na poucha
Teri deed ki lagan mein!
I’m a reader of Kashmiri Mystics, by Favourite Shams Faqeer and Wahab Khar and other Persian Sufis ; my favourite Maulana Rumi,Amir Khusrou. They write life. As I read them, I am filled with colours and these take the shape of a painting. Their poems explain life from a bigger stance. She said
Badrunisa said that Red and black always help me express myself in a better way because my environment (conflict) adds those to my palette . I paint abstract. I feel it gives a lot more scope for different interpretations. I am a student, studying humanities. I aspire to bring a change through my art. So people may understand their soul. I see the world from a different lens. I not only dabble with colours. Words fascinate me equally. My paintings reflect a mystical world and they also have a symbol of moon, it is spiritual than any other existent. Art is an expression of silent voice of Soul. Spirituality sanctifies Art. Each colour is a healer. Spirituality offers life to Art and a better understanding. Art becomes a spiritual process depending upon the degree of commitment that you bring to it. Every experience becomes direct food for your art. I may not put forward conflict in my Canvas but it is in my soul and my being. And my process of painting keeps me going with courage and valour. Kashmir is a beautiful, spiritual and a sorrow ridden place and it’s a duty upon every artist to depict it all hues and shades.. And that is what I am trying to do….
I usually don’t paint landscapes because I want to dwell in a much larger world, that’s the inner world –the macrocosm which is more vast and the actual she said.
She said I can say that , “meri saari zaat ik justuju hai haqq ko paane ki” and for that colours become an absolute medium for me. I feel my hand is entirely the implement of a distant sphere. It is not my head that functions but something else, something higher, something somewhere remote and full of wisdom , She said―(Kashmir Bulletin)
