Srinager, Dec 05: Voting began on Monday for the re-poll of District Development Council (DDC) election in Drugmulla and Hajin-A constituencies in northern Kashmir amid high security.
“Amid chilling cold very few voters were seen queuing up outside polling stations as voting began which started at 7 a.m. and would end at 2 pm,” an official told the Kashmir News Service (KNS).”Stringent and elaborate security arrangements have been put in place in the district to ensure smooth conduct of polling,” they said.
The officials futher said a multi-layered security set-up was put in place as part of an elaborate security plan for protection of polling booths, handling of law and order problems and thwarting the designs of anti-national elements to disrupt the polls and also to instil a sense of confidence among voters for ensuring free, fair, transparent and smooth conduct of elections in the duo DDC constituencies.
The DDC elections took place in Jammu and Kashmir in December 2020. However, the counting of votes was withheld in these two seats — Drugmulla in Kupwara and Hajin-A in Bandipora — due to the disputed qualification of two candidates.
The DDC constituency of Hajin-A has a total electorate of 15,351 and Drugmulla 32,845 with 42 polling stations in Drugmulla and at 57 polling stations in Hajin.(KNS)
