Srinagar, Jan 22 (KB): The District Administration of Srinagar has clarified that a list of encroachments attributed to various Tehsils of the district, which has been circulating on social media, is unverified and does not exist in official records.
According to a circular, a copy which lies with Kashmir Bulletin–(KB), reads that the administration, the list appears to be forged and has a reference date of 2001. The government institutions established on government land are meant to serve a public purpose and cannot be classified as instances of encroachment. The government land is meant exclusively for use by the government, including the construction of government offices for the public.
“The list has been found to contain a number of inaccuracies and fabrications. For example, in estate Zethyar, a government establishment has been shown as having been set up on 279 different survey numbers, while official records indicate that the establishment is spread across only 22 survey numbers. Similarly, in estate Bonamsar, a survey number falling under a revered Sufi Shrine, as per official records, has been wrongly attributed to a different non-governmental institution.”
“The District Administration has stated that the list is not in conformity with revenue records and has urged the public to exercise caution in regard to unverified and unsigned information circulating on social media,” it reads. (Kashmir Bulletin–KB)
