Srinagar Police ramps up efforts to make city drug-free

23 April 2026 : In a continued effort to combat the growing menace of drug abuse, Srinagar Police has intensified its inspection drives across the district under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan.

Police teams carried out extensive and surprise inspections of chemist shops in various parts of the city to ensure strict compliance with rules governing the sale of pharmaceutical drugs. The primary objective of these drives is to prevent the misuse of prescription medicines and to ensure that no drugs are being sold illegally in violation of the NDPS Act.

During the inspections, officials thoroughly checked sale registers, stock records, and billing systems of medical stores. Shopkeepers were instructed to maintain proper documentation of all transactions and to strictly dispense medicines only against valid prescriptions issued by authorized medical practitioners. They were also warned against selling habit-forming or restricted drugs without proper authorization.

In addition to enforcement, the police focused on awareness and sensitization. Chemist shop owners and staff were educated about the legal provisions, their responsibilities, and the serious consequences of non-compliance. They were urged to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious requests or activities related to drug misuse.

The police reiterated that tackling drug abuse requires a collective effort. They appealed to the general public to actively support the initiative by following legal guidelines and sharing credible information about any drug-related activities with law enforcement agencies.

Srinagar Police reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a drug-free society, adding that such inspection drives will continue on a regular basis across the district.
